Still Unsolved and Unexplained
Mysteries
The Location of the Ark
It is generally agree that the mountains of Ararat are in the
mountainous land of Armenia. However, just where the ark is
located in the Ararat range in unknown. Two peaks, known among
the Persians as "the mountain of Noah" have been traditionally
suggested as the resting place of the ark.
The Location of Mt. Sinai
It was on Mount Sinai that God gave Moses the Ten Commandments.
Since the Bible refers to the location by various names such
as "the mountain of God," "Mount Horeb,"
and the "mountain," the site's location is still a
mystery. The search to identify the location is compounded by
the Bible translators use of mountain, mount and hill interchangeably.
However, there are certain considerations that lend themselves
to consider one location more likely than another. When the
author stood on what is traditionally called Mt Sinai, it was
obvious that there would not have been enough room at its base
for the nation to set up camp. Instead, there is another mountain
that seems more likely that is in front of the traditional location.
However, visitors to the area regularly climb the arduous path
to the top simply because it has a foot-path. The mountains
of that area of unbelievably steep and difficult to climb and
a private excursion up another site without a path would be a
task undertaken by only experienced and fit mountain climbers.
The author reflects that whatever Moses climbed to meet God,
he must have had some help to get to the top and back again,
especially carrying the tables of stone back down the mountain.
The Location of the Ark Containing the Ten Commandments
This most precious wooden box was overlaid with gold. It was
about 4' long and about 2-1/2' wide and high and contained the
tables of stone engraved with the Ten Commandments. It was kept
in the Most Holy Place of Israel's tabernacle. As the Israelites
traveled, the ark's bearers carried it before the people in such
events as marching seven days around Jerico. Eventually it was
given a permanent home in Solomon's Temple where it remained
until Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem. The Bible gives no
further information about what happened to it.
The Location of the Garden of Eden
"And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and
from thence it was parted, and became into four heads."
Genesis 2:10. Because the surface of the earth was changed by
the flood of Noah, the location of the rivers has remained an
impossible task. There has been much speculation...even the North
Pole and Australia have been suggested as possible locations!
